Undirdjúpsins(The Bottomless Pit)
Continuing on the golden circle, approaching the first among the two most popular touristic attractions we arrived at Gullfoss. The wide rive Hvítá rushing down a two staged drop into a narrow crevice. When looking from top it appears as if the huge river Hvita is disappearing into bowels of the earth but as you approach this waterfall you can see the water flowing in the gorge, which continues for another 2.5km.
Iceland may be created by the fires from within the earth that still continue to alter this island, but it’s the water on its surface that makes Iceland such a interesting place to explore. Water in Icelandic is Vatn, and we shall see how Vatn in its different forms can create a deep attraction. But one must be aware of the beast hidden in this beauty and its dangers if not respected.
